THE RUSTY GUNS

The Rusty Guns are made up of 3 parts Texas, 1 part Appalachia, with their main stage located in New York City. They take the parts of an old time band when Rock 'n' Roll was young and simple with Guitar, Upright Bass, and Drums, but put gas on the fire with a driving Banjo added on top. They take familiar forms of 12-bar blues, country ballads, and bluegrass runs, elecrify and distort them with their amplifiers and make you stomp your feet harder than you ever have before. They sing songs about outlaws, heroes, trailblazers, lovers, and anything that speaks to the primal urges of humanity. Influences range wider than the Mississippi River, but to pick a few big ones out of the sky there's the story telling and stylings of Johnny Cash, Jack White, and Hank Williams, not to mention nods toward American greats like Earl Scruggs and Bela' Fleck.

The Pendulum Swings Big Band Live

  • 10pm - The Pendulum Swings

    The Brass Bottle is in Bushwick at 201 Central Ave, at Central and Dekalb near the Central M train station.

    //////

    The Pendulum Swings is the first big-band project from Jason Trachtenburg (Trachtenburg Family Slideshow Players), featuring a seasoned 8-piece horn section. The band has been described as, “…A warped Sinatra…” by Time Out New York. Their show is a stylistic homage to big-band era Duke Ellington and Count Basie. The musical performance is brash, yet mysterious; humorous yet somehow serious. The overt comedic element cannot cannot downplayed enough. Legendary in-between song banter, rip-roaring one-liners, and an unforgettable “Q and A” session with the audience are commonplace at a Pendulum Swings show!

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    The cosmic shift is here. The heavens have cracked and all realities have combined. Everything is different than it used to be. The highest Gods have fallen gently to the earthly plane, and the most vile demons have received a promotion from the underworld. Drunk from mead from the halls of Asgard, a horde of immortal deities and monsters on the way to Mardi Gras in New Orleans have come to New York to spread divine love and fury same.
    Mardi Gras is a special holiday for Thunder Gumbo. We are in awe of the power of carnival cultures the world over, from Brazil to New Orleans to Black Rock City. We love the mixing of high and low cultures, the phenomenon of friends coming together to make art happen, the escape of art from galleries in to streets, the endless costumes on young and old and dogs and babies, the experience of culture that you can feel.
    Adorn yourself for a night of divine debauchery and monstrous mayhem. Celebrate the old traditional escape before Lent with OUR Carnival.
