ALTERNATIVE: Trachtenburg Family Slideshow Players (6/18)

The Trachtenburgs are more traveling family circus than band. The trio stages shows that mix bright pop songs with found vintage slides and colorful gypsy-like outfits. Mama Tina Pina runs the projector (with the help of a lap dog or two, if I remember correctly from a show at the Dryden a few years back), daughter Rachel plays the drums (she's played in the band since she was 6; she's 14 now, and has her own television show), while dad Jason sings and plays guitars and keyboards. It's a visual and auditory delight punctuated by family banter, such as when (at the Dryden show) Jason wanted to play a song Rachel didn't; the father-daughter tension was palpable and endearing.
The show goes on Wednesday, June 18, 8 p.m., at the Bug Jar, 219 Monroe Ave. $10-$12. 454-2966.
